The European Green Cars Initiative is one of the three public private partnerships (PPP) included in the Economic Recovery Plan, which were announced by the European Commission and endorsed by the Member States at the end of 2008. It aims at supporting smart investments in research in the automotive sector, which is one of the main pillars of the European economy.

The objective of the ''Support Action to promote Spanish participation in the European Green Cars Initiative'' is to strengthen the Spanish technological position towards the opportunities derived from such initiative and the European institutional support and interest towards electromobility, with the aim of reaching an active participation in the European initiative in agreement with the national capabilities and also to foster the coordination and technological cooperation of the vehicle manufacturers and suppliers sectors with other sectors involved: electric, infrastructure, logistics, etc.
